When I had heard in 2012 that they were releasing a film version of 21 JUMP STREET, I think I just rolled my eyes, thinking the studios were digging pretty deep in the TV series barrel to recycle a feature out of the early Fox series.
Thankfully we have Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum bringing plenty of laughs and irreverence in their roles as two young looking cops sent back to high school to bust a drug ring.
Christopher Miller & Phil Lord (The Lego Movie) wrote and directed the film and it's jammed full of laughs and great physical comedy as Hill's nerdy, awkward Schmidt pairs with the athletic but dumb Jenko (Tatum) on an undercover mission.
Rob Riggle brings plenty of hilarity(as always) as a twisted faculty member and Dave Franco is spot on as the student leader of the high school drug cartel.
The scene where our cop students take some of the hottest drug in town and have a full on trip is fall over funny, with Hill and Tatum at their best.
Ice Cube is perfect as the always shouting Captain Dickson, a knowing nod to the police captain in every one of those seventies TV shows that seemed to only know one volume: full on screaming.
21 Jump Street is profane, fast and funny and gets a laugh filled B.
Followed in 2014 by 22 Jump Street.
