SERIOUSLY FUNNY MOVIE REVIEWS

The Story

As far back as I can remember with any clarity, movies have been an important part of my life. There is nothing like the laughter, the terror, or the adventure you can feel in a darkened theater!

While the way we consume entertainment has changed dramatically, the power of a great film remains the same.

For more than a decade, I’ve shared a review on Facebook for every film that I’ve watched. They began as short comments in the early days, but as an ever-growing number of friends shared that they loved them, the reviews grew in length and frequency.

My brain is a warehouse of useless information about films I’ve watched since the mid-1960’s. Maybe now those tidbits aren’t so useless, I’ve finally found an outlet!

I’m hoping the thousands of reviews here provoke thought on the serious films, while providing solid laughs on those dreaded cinematic bombs that earned an F rating.

As you’ll soon notice, the worse the grade, the higher the sarcasm ratio unleashed.

The nature of any kind of film review is that these are solely my personal opinions on the films and how I experienced them. I’m sure we won’t always agree, but hopefully you’ll enjoy my perspective.

Explore the reviews by grade, by year, by genre, anyway you’d like.

Thank you for being here.

Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

How did you get into writing reviews?

From an early age, I’ve been a film fan and always loved discussing movies. During high school, I was the movie critic on the newspaper staff and that was a blast! Life and careers took off and film discussion was limited to a valued group of friends. Over a decade ago, I started writing short movie reviews on Facebook and they often generated a lot of fun chatter. The reviews got longer and I made a commitment to posting a review for every film I watched, from the best of the best to the absolute bombs. These posts generated a lot of feedback and appreciation. Many friends suggested a blog to make it easier for them to find past reviews and George At The Movies was born!

How do you decide which movies to review?

I strive to post at least one review a day. Those reviews will be a mix of new films as they hit theaters or streaming platforms and older films that I’m revisiting. I never post a review of a film from the past without rewatching it for a fresh perspective. As I launch this site, I’m committed to seeing as many new releases as possible, which sounds like a lot of fun! Let me know if there’s a film you’d like me to review and I’ll add it to my watch list.
