Fun, action-packed and hilarious, THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD is surprisingly enjoyable. I went in expecting a "Taken" type action throwaway with a little humor, but was surprised to find a big-budget, well-cast, full blown action flick.
Ryan Reynolds is in fine form, bringing all his "Deadpool" sarcasm to his role as Michael Bryce, the world's top rated bodyguard.
When Bruce's business and credibility take a huge hit, he finds himself far from the top and scrounging for any job he can get.
Bryce's ex, Emilia is an MI6 agent who must get a high profile witness in a mob trial to London. When it appears her team is compromised, she hires Bryce for the job. Elodie Yung (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) is perfect and exotic as Emilia.
The witness is Darius Kincaid, a legendary hitman played with his trademark rapid-fire profane hilarity by Samuel L. Jackson.
Bruce and Kincaid know & hate each other, making for odd bedfellows as they face incredible odds to get to the trial.
Evil mob boss Dukhovich (Gary Oldman, tearing up the scenery and truly menacing) will stop at nothing to take out Kincaid before he can testify.
As our odd duo face off against attack after attack, the laughs fly as fast as the bullets.
There is a massive car/speedboat/motorcycle chase that matches anything in the Brosnan OO7 flicks (and rivals them for repeat viewing desire). There are countless massive explosions and more than a few bodies abused beyond all limitations.
Salma Hayek out Jacksons Sam as his imprisoned wife, all kick-ass attitude and profanity laced tirades. She's hilarious.
Reynolds and Jackson are having a lot of fun and its contagious, watching them tear each other up verbally as the entirety of the UK descends on them for the bounty on their head is nonstop entertainment.
Icelandic composer Atli Orvarsson gives us a wall-to-wall terrific action score that adds to the tension.
In the mood for an adult, violent, funny action flick with two talented and witty actors in control? Reynolds & Jackson's aim is dead on, blasting THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD to a very enjoyable B.
